Vintage Musical Instruments
Here are some of the interesting old musical instruments I've found over the years

Here's an old American Standard Trombone, this one needed some restoration
Old trombones and brass instruments are always fun to find!

A vintage Aspen dreadnaught acoustic guitar - Korean, but still a good player
(Sorry, guitars aren't for sale, they're already gone!)

Atlas B8 hi-hat cymbals - not as good as Zildjians, but they do the trick
I'm always out looking for quality vintage cymbals!

An Aulos recorder - remember how much fun we had playing these in elementary school?
I don't buy recorders - there's just no money in them!

30+ years old, and this Baldwin Professional Amplifier still worked great!
(Sorry gang, I sold the Baldwin Professional amp long ago!)

A friend found this old broken banjo in the trash and it sold on eBay for $255!
Antique banjos with metal tone rings can be valuable!

I really wanted to hear this Boss Dr. Synth DS-330 synthesizer module but it had no power cord! Oh well...
Always make sure you have extra AC adapters for your synth!

An old Carl Fischer french horn. I had to drive an hour to get it, but I still made a few bucks!
Antique french horns, cornets and trumpets are a great find!

After 20+ years in storage, this Casiotone MT-35 keyboard still worked great, and it even had its original box!
Old Casio electronic synthesizers make some great sounds!

This old clarinet had a crack in the bell, so I lost a few bucks on the deal. Next!
Vintage clarinets can be tough to sell, so pick 'em up cheap!

A Conrad classical guitar, made in Japan probably in the 1960s or 1970s
Old Japanese guitars are always interesting!

This crate Blue Voodoo BV300H tube amplifier head was heavy, but sometimes you have to lift to get paid!
Old guitar amplifiers with tubes inside are always a good find!

This Dan-Mar bass tom mount lets you convert a floor tom to a bass drum!
(No...I'd never heard of Danmar either!)

A vintage mountain dulcimer, this one was well made and sounded great too!
Dulcimers are an important part of Appalachian folk music!

Another old clarinet, this time by Evette Schaeffer
Lots of students play the clarinet!

I don't always find the amplifier...sometimes I just find paperwork, like this Fender Princeton Reverb brochure and schematic!
Old Fender and Marshall amp paperwork - pick it up!

This 1970s Fibes drum catalog was filled with great photos of Fibes drum sets!
Old drum catalogs are fascinating to read!

This old Giannini AWN300 classical guitar was in excellent condition
There are vintage guitars in attics and basements all over the US!

This Giardinelli C10 mouthpiece looks beat up, but someone bought it on eBay...
Sometimes a mouthpiece (trumpet, saxophone, etc.) can be valuable!

This homemade 2-into-1 guitar/amplifier switch worked great, but nobody bought it!
Vintage guitar switches and foot pedals are usually desirable!

A Hamer Slammer bass - found it cheap, soldered a few joints, made about fifty bucks!
Don't throw away your bass or guitar just because it doesn't work!

Harmony sold many thousands of cheap acoustic guitars, here's one of them!
Collectors still look for vintage Harmony guitars!

This Heit Japanese bass guitar was a good investment on a classic instrument!
Old Japanese guitars and basses can be fun and collectible!

Recorders like this Hohner Educator are fun to play, but I rarely pay more than a buck for them!
A flute or piccolo is more versatile than a recorder!

This Hohner Verdi accordion was in rough shape, so I sold it for parts!
Even if your accordion is broken, it still might be valuable!

This vintage homemade acoustic guitar was crudely built, but someone had fun building it!
"Hand-made" and "homemade" instruments are two different things!

This Howard Combo organ needed some work, but for a 45-year-old instrument it was still very nice!
Lots of groups used combo organs in the 1960s

This Judd Violin was ready to play, I hope the new owner enjoys it!
Old violins are popular with musicians and collectors!

This J.W. York & Sons professional trombone turned out to be quite valuable!
Don't be afraid, take a chance, buy an old trombone, trumpet or saxophone!

This Japanese koto wasn't playable, but I wish it had been, I wanted to hear it!
A koto is just one unusual musical instrument I've found!

This old Lafayette trumpet turned out to be worthless...you can't win 'em all!
Not all old musical instruments are valuable, sometimes it's a gamble!

A left-handed Made in Mexico (MIM) Fender Stratocaster - a nice, reasonably priced guitar!
Mexican Fender Guitars a way better than cheap Chinese Squiers!

These vintage Ludwig tom drum mounts will come in handy for a drummer!
Old drum hardware by Ludwig, Slingerland, Gretsch and Rogers can be worth money!

I hated to sell my Ludwig blue vistalite drum set, but I needed the money more than I needed the drums!
Ludwig Vistalite drums have clear shells in many different colors!

I sold this black Ludwig Vistalite bass drum shell as part of a package deal to a Japanese girl from NYC who wanted to build a crazy drum set!
Vintage drum shells and parts are always useful, don't throw them away!

This old Gregory Mark XXV reverb amplifier was pretty desirable with bidders!
Old tube-based guitar amplifiers are usually worth picking up!

The Gibson Norlin L5 Lab Series amplifier is well-respected among players and collectors, and it sounds great!
Norlin, Gibson, Fender, Marshall...keep looking for those vintage amps!

Another vintage Japanese bass guitar...this one an "Orpheus" for parts!
Lots of collectors enjoy working on vintage bass and guitar projects!

A Pearl brass-shell piccolo snare is always a quality drum!
Pearl, Tama, DW, Mapex...they're not vintage but they're still good!

For some reason, Peavey electric guitars, like this Raptor, aren't very desirable.
Peavey guitars aren't great but amplifiers are legendary!

Honestly if I never own another clarinet (like this Preufer) I couldn't care less!
No offense to the clarinet, but they're just usually not worth much!

A rule of thumb with old Japanese guitars: the more pickups, switches, etc....the better!
Complicated old Japanese guitars make great projects for restorers!

Cheap drum sets - like this one by Silvertone - are tough to sell for decent money!
Steer clear of beginner drum sets, unless they're very cheap!

This Silvertone model 1482 amplifier is well respected amongst players of vintage tube amps
A vintage amp doesn't need to say "Fender" or "Marshall" to be good!

Although this tom isn't super old, it definitely shows that Slingerland made some beautiful blue sparkle drums!
Slingerland, Ludwig, Gretsch and Rogers, and Leedy are all great vintage drum companies!

How can a vintage guitar and bass page be complete without a Squier p-bass?
Squiers aren't terrible...just buy and sell 'em cheap!

Another Japanese classical guitar - this time a Toyota! (It didn't sell for much!)
Electric guitars are more fun than classical guitars!

I took a chance on this Traynor YVM3 Voicemate Reverb amp head, and it paid off!
If you don't spend too much, any vintage amplifier head is worth risking a few bucks!

This Univox Compac-Piano turned out to be a pretty tough sell...luckily I bought it for two bucks!
Old keyboards, synthesizers, combo organs and digital pianos can be valuable!

This Marshall Valvestate VS100 chassis was in rough shape, but it worked, so someone bought it!
Broken Marshall amplifiers are still worth picking up!

This WFL marching snare is an antique, but it's not really a collector's dream.
Collectors sometomes spend more on drums they can play than on museum pieces!

Yamaha has made some great acoustic guitars, including this F-310P.
Yamaha, Epiphone, Guild, Ovation, even Ibanez make good acoustic guitars!

This Yamaha G60a is a good example of a vintage Japanese classical guitar
Japanese classical guitars are everywhere!

This weird-looking Yamaha "Keytar" synthesizer is rare and valuable!
1980s electronic keyboards and synthesizers are fun!

A Yamaha professional model bass drum pedal - useful for a gigging drummer!
Drum pedals and hardware can take a lot of abuse!

I wanted to hear this Yamaha RX17 drum machine, but it needed a new battery...oh well!
Electronic drum machines can be desirable and collectible!

Yamaha YAS-23 saxophones sell for about $1000 new, so they're a good seller used too!
Old saxophones, trumpets, cornets and brass instruments are great to find!

This Zoom 505-II guitar pedal does so many things I couldn't figure them all out!
Guitar effects pedals help players create interesting sounds!
